Features

Chassis

  • ALL-TERRAIN, LONG-RANGE COMFORT: The Multistrada 1200 Enduro is equipped as standard with a 870 mm seat-height. A higher 890 mm version - comfortable yet suited to off-road riding - and a lower 850 mm one are also available as optionals. Moreover, there is also the option of a narrower passenger seat that makes it easier for the rider to move back when standing on the pegs.
  • TIRES AND WHEELS: The Multistrada 1200 Enduro is equipped with Pirelli SCORPIONTM Trail II tyres, 120/70 R19 at the front and 170/60 R17 at the rear. This tyre successfully merges two very different fields of use: off-road racetracks and road riding. Designed for even the most demanding motorcyclists, its advantages include excellent mileage, consistent performance throughout its lifespan and first-rate wet weather handling. The Multistrada 1200 Enduro features tubeless, spoked wheels with aluminium rims, 40 cross-mounted spokes and gravity-cast hubs. The measurements are 3.00 x 19'' at the front and 4.50 x 17'' at the rear.
  • PIRELLI SCORPION TRAIL II TIRES: Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tyres are purposely designed for on/off road use to deliver sport performance on road in terms of grip and lean angles, while ensuring high mileage for touring and good off-road performance.
  • BREMBO BRAKES AND CORNERING ABS: The Multistrada 1200 Enduro features Brembo brakes with the Bosch 9.1ME ABS ECU, an integral part of the Ducati Safety Pack (DSP). Cornering ABS makes use of the Bosch IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) platform to optimise front and rear braking power even in critical situations with the bike at considerable lean angles. The front braking system on the new Multistrada 1200 features monobloc radially-mounted Brembo 4-piston callipers with 32 mm diameter pistons and 2 pads, a radial master cylinder with adjustable lever, and dual 320 mm discs. At the rear, there is a single 265 mm diameter disc gripped by a floating calliper, again from Brembo. These components ensure top braking performance, a standard Ducati feature.
  • TRELLIS FRAME: The new Multistrada 1200 Enduro mounts components that, in terms of technological content and performance, are nothing less than state-of-the-art. Key chassis parameters such as vehicle wheelbase, swingarm length and steering geometry (trail and offset) have been defined by seeking out the best compromise between off-road riding, handling and high-speed stability. The Multistrada 1200 Enduro has a solid frontal Trellis frame with large-diameter, low-thickness tubing while the two lateral sub-frames are closed off by a rear load-bearing, techno-polymer, fibreglass element to maximise torsional rigidity. The 205 mm ground clearance is an essential advantage when heading off-road.
  • DOUBLE-SIDED SWINGING ARM: The double-sided swingarm is made of shell-cast aluminium, its combination of brushed and rough-finished parts offers eye-catching appeal. Specially designed for off-road use, this tough swingarm combines limited weight with an excellent ability to absorb the punishment meted out by off-road riding.
  • ERGONOMICS: The riding position of the Multistrada 1200 Enduro has been designed to ensure optimum off-road handling. The handlebars are higher and the seat is designed to maximise contact between rider and bike. The footpegs are made of steel and have removable rubber covers. The lever design also takes its cue from the off-road world: the rear brake lever can easily be height-adjusted while the gear lever has a special coupling to prevent breakage in the event of a fall or contact with an obstacle.
  • DUCATI SKYHOOK SUSPENSION (DSS) EVO: The DSS (Ducati Skyhook Suspension) Evolution system on the Multistrada 1200 Enduro is based on a 48 mm fork and a Sachs rear shock. These ensure 200 mm of wheel travel both front and back. Electronic suspension allows for continuous rebound and compression damping adjustment, with semi-active control giving optimal vehicle balance. In practice, the system keeps the attitude of the bike steady whatever the road conditions, minimises vehicle body oscillation, reduces the vibration transferred to the rider and significantly increases comfort and safety. To smooth the effect of the longitudinal forces of acceleration and deceleration, the system also makes use of the Ducati Traction Control (DTC) longitudinal accelerometer sensor, the ABS system pressure detectors for rapid calculation and activation of a response that reduces resulting vehicle oscillation, and the data from the Bosch IMU which dynamically reveals the bike's attitude on the two axes (lateral and vertical tilt).

Engine

  • DUCATI TESTASTRETTA DVT: The Testastretta DVT engine uses the Desmodromic valve actuation system that has made the Bologna-built bikes famous worldwide. This special system closes the intake and exhaust valves mechanically, with the same precision as they are opened. The design of the Ducati Testastretta DVT engine shows how Desmodromic valve actuation provides a clear advantage over traditional valve springs; at low revs the system requires less force because there are no springs to be compressed. This makes it possible to keep the individual valve timing adjusters compact, which minimizes their weight and allows them to be smoothly integrated. As a result, with a bore of 106 mm and stroke of 67.9 mm (giving a total displacement of 1198 cm³) the Ducati Testastretta DVT delivers 160 hp at 9500 rpm and 136 Nm of torque at 7500 rpm. Even at just 3500 rpm the available torque is already 100 Nm and remains near-constant, exceeding 110 Nm between 5,000 and 10,000 rpm. The Multistrada 1200 Enduro mounts a six-speed gearbox on which the first gear ratio is shorter than that on the other bikes in the Multistrada family in order to improve off-road performance and ensure better handling on more technical, low-speed tracts. The clutch on the Multistrada 1200 Enduro is of the oil-bath slipper type.
  • DESMODROMIC VARIABLE TIMING (DVT): The Desmodromic Variable Timing (DVT) uses hydraulically operated camshaft-phasers (two for each heads) to manipulate camshaft position relative to the sprocket connected to the timing belt and therefore vary valve timing. They are on both the intake and exhaust camshaft. The camshaft-phaser is a two-piece mechanism comprised an outer sprocket (2) connected to the timing belt and an inner rotor (3) connected to the camshaft that varies the valve timing by adjusting the rotation angle of the camshaft. The two pieces can move about 45° crankshaft degrees independently of each other in 0,45 sec. This inner rotor consists of a set of lobes, ports inside the phaser direct oil in or out of the space between (chambers) the outer housing and the lobes. Oil seals fit into machined grooves of the rotor to provide a tight seal between the chambers. The chambers are grouped into two sides. Left alone the outer sprocket will simply spin at the same rate as the inner rotor. As one group of chambers receives pressurized oil (system adds oil to one side of the lobe), and the others are vented it provides the force necessary to move or hold the rotor relative to the phaser body. The camshaft-phasers of each head are connected to the engine oil system via two solenoid valves (4) attached to the cylinder heads. They direct oil pressure to both the camshaft-phasers according to the signal from the engine control unit. The oil pressure acting in the cam phasers is continually adjusted by the oil control valves in order to set the right position of each camshaft. The position of the camshaft is dynamically controlled by a specific sensor mounted on the head covers. The engine control unit according to engine-information (engine speed, engine load and temperature and the positions of the crankshaft and camshafts) actuates the solenoid valves. They open oil galleries in the control housing. Engine oil flows through the control housing into the camshaft-phasers. The camshaft-phasers turn and adjust the camshaft timing according to the specifications of the engine control unit.
  • INDEPENDENT DUAL-SPARK CONFIGURATION: The Ducati Testastretta DVT is equipped with two sparks whose ignition is managed independently: (1) one is placed at the center of the combustion chamber, the additional one (2) on the external side. The benefit is to provide at any engine speeds a further more effective twin flame-front that ensures complete and efficient burning (quicker and more complete) of the fuel-air mixture within the combustion chamber across a shorter period of time. At low engine speeds the two plugs work simultaneously, while at high engine speeds the two plugs are managed independently with a dedicated ignition timing.
  • EXHAUST SYSTEM: The exhaust system layout is based on two primary manifolds that merge directly in the single 2-chamber silencer; the latter, in addition to acting as a 2-1-2 collector, contains the catalytic converter. From here two pipes exit directly towards the light, compact silencers, which are side-mounted in a high position and feature aluminium alloy outer sleeves.
  • LONG MAINTENANCE INTERVALS: Constant investment in quality - ensured by design, advanced materials and cutting-edge engineering - has allowed Ducati to reduce scheduled maintenance requirements; routine maintenance intervals have been extended to 15,000 km 18,000 miles) (or one year) and valve timing adjustment to 30,000 km (9,000 miles), providing clear advantages for customers. This has been achieved by employing special materials for the valve seats, improving combustion efficiency, and containing the running temperature of the Ducati Testastretta DVT engine. Moreover, the innovative DVT system does not in any way complicate the valve timing adjustment procedure.
  • ANTI-KNOCKING SENSOR: The Ducati Testastretta DVT features an integrated anti-knocking sensor; while optimized for high octane fuel (RON 95), thanks to an anti-knocking sensor the motor can also operate - without manual intervention - on lower octane normal fuel (RON 91) as are sometimes found in distant countries.

Equipment

  • MULTISTRADA LINK:
  • FULL-TFT INSTRUMENT PANEL:
  • RIDING MODE:
  • DUCATI CORNERING LIGHTS (DCL): The Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) constantly supplies lean angle data to the Ducati Cornering Lights (DCL) that equip the Multistrada 1200 Enduro to provide a greater active safety at night or whenever visibility is poor. When entering a bend, the dedicated LED located in the headlights turn on in the direction of the road, according to a defined lean angle, allowing to see around the corner instead of having to ride into darkness. When the lean angle sensor detects the bike is bending the LED are turned on and the illumination is directed into the bend to balance the angle of lean and as consequence to become any obstacles visible sooner.
  • DUCATI SAFETY PACK (DSP): The Ducati Safety Pack (DSP) is offered standard throughout the Multistrada 1200 range, giving evidence of how Ducati gives top priority to road safety. Designed to achieve superior control and active safety, the DSP includes Brembo's state-of-the-art 9ME multi-calibration cornering ABS with three mappings and 8-levels Ducati Traction Control (DTC).
  • PREMIUM HANDLEBAR SWITCHES: The handlebar switches are easy to operate thanks to generous dimension and extreme intuitive with one single operation for button. High quality look and feel is combined with backlight for the main functions to easily locate buttons even during night time riding.
  • DUCATI TRACTION CONTROL (DTC): An integral part of the Ducati Safety Pack (DSP), the Ducati Traction Control system can be adjusted to eight levels (four of which are integrated in the Riding Modes). It processes the inputs from the wheel speed sensors to control rear wheel slip, significantly improving performance and active safety. The system installed on the Multistrada 1200 Enduro offers a very smooth intervention of the system, which gives priority to ignition delay. In case of wheel-spin, the system reacts by delaying the ignition, up to a 60% torque reduction request. For higher torque reduction requests the injection is cut off. Each pre-set DTC level associated with the different Riding Modes can be customised by the rider and stored from the setup menu.
  • DUCATI WHEELIE CONTROL (DWC): This system analyses the attitude of the bike (to detect any front wheel lift) and controls torque and power accordingly to maximise acceleration in safety without destabilising balance. Like DTC, it features 8-level adjustment and is incorporated into the Riding Modes.
  • FULL-LED HEADLIGHTS: The Multistrada 1200 Enduro features the latest lighting technologies; the headlights use LED technology for position, low and high beams while at the rear a 3D light guide for position light and LED lights for stop light. Full-LED front indicators integrated in the hand guards and traditional lamps indicators at the rear complete the lighting system.
  • HANDS-FREE IGNITION: The Multistrada 1200 Enduro is actuated without a mechanical key. As the rider approaches the bike with the electronic key in his pocket, the system will recognise the key code within a 2-metre range and enable actuation. At this point, a simple press of the key-on button will switch on the panel, and then the rider can start the engine. The steering lock is electrically actuated. When parking the bike, it can be actuated by pressing the key-on button. The steering lock is released automatically at the next key-on.
  • CRUISE CONTROL: The Multistrada 1200 Enduro comes standard with an electronic cruise control function making lengthy motorway rides more relaxed and comfortable. The function is activated by pressing a dedicated easy-to-access button at the left-hand end of the handlebars, via the same button is possible to increase or reduce the currently selected road speed. Here the two throttle valves are activated by the engine control and independently of the accelerator twist grip. When the front or rear brake or the clutch are activated or the throttle grip is turned in the opposite direction cruise control is switched off. The “Resume” function allows the rider to re-activate the originally selected speed, which the vehicle then automatically restores.
  • DUCATI MULTIMEDIA SYSTEM (DMS): The new Multistrada 1200 Enduro is equipped as standard with the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS) that thanks to Bluetooth technology allows to accept an incoming phone call, to select and listen to the favorite songs and be alerted for a new SMS. When you get on the bike the smart-phone automatically connects via Bluetooth with the bike; connection allows to manage the controls of the main multimedia functions while the TFT display the listening track, the new SMS icon or the name of the incoming caller; audio call and music are transmitted to earphones of driver and passenger. Moreover the DMS via the Multistrada Link smartphones application (available for Android and IOS), provides a number of functionality designed to enrich and share the riding experience.
  • BOSCH 9.1ME MULTI-CALIBRATION CORNERING ABS: The Multistrada 1200 Enduro features a Brembo braking system with the Bosch 9.1ME ABS ECU, an integral part of the Ducati Safety Pack (DSP). Cornering ABS makes use of the Bosch IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) platform to optimise front and rear braking power even in critical situations with the bike at considerable lean angles. Through interaction with the Riding Modes, the system provides compromise-free solutions whatever the situation or riding conditions. Thanks to its ABS control processor the Multistrada makes use of an Electronic Combined Braking System that is optimised for the Urban and Touring Riding Modes, but has a lower degree of interaction in Sport mode where combined braking is less desirable. The combined braking system increases stability by using four pressure detectors to allocate braking power optimally between front and rear.
  • VEHICLE HOLD CONTROL (VHC): On the Multistrada 1200 Enduro, the ABS features the Vehicle Hold Control (VHC) system. When activated, the latter holds the vehicle steady by applying rear wheel braking (if unused automatic deactivation occurs after 9 seconds). This provides riders with easier restarts; this is because it modulates brake pressure during starts, leaving the rider free to focus on throttle and clutch control. The function is activated when, with the bike at standstill and the kickstand up, the rider applies high pressure on the front or rear brake levers. On activation the system calculates and applies, according to vehicle status, pressure on the rear brake system by acting on the pump and the ABS control unit valves. This system can be activated at all ABS levels, except for when the ABS is switched off. VHC activation is indicated by a warning light. The same warning light starts flashing when the system is about to release pressure on the rear wheel and cease holding the vehicle: pressure reduction is gradual.
